MIAMI, FL -- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has announced plans to launch a biotech research effort in Miami, Florida, if the research center's boosters can secure state funding. The $20 million funding would be to purchase research infrastructure critical to the project, called the Miami Poinciana Biomedical Park. There are currently two bills pending in the state legislature to fund the project. Under the research program, MIT professors would fly down to the Florida center periodically to perform research on areas such as diseases of the central nervous system, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s as well as drug abuse.
